MESQUITE, Texas — A convenience store clerk disarmed a would-be robbery suspect early Tuesday morning in Mesquite as seen in video (below) released by the Mesquite Police Department.
Mesquite Police Department Public Information Officer Lieutenant Brian Parrish says the would-be robbery suspect entered the 7-11 convenience store, located at 1428 Oates Drive, at approximately 2:30 a.m. and demanded cash from the two registers.
“The suspect demanded access to the safe and struck the clerk when he could not provide access,” stated Parrish. “The clerk fought back against the assault and eventually managed to gain control of the suspect’s handgun.”
Once the clerk gained control of the handgun, he used it to walk the suspect out of the store.
The clerk reported superficial cuts and bruising due to the struggle with the suspect but none required immediate medical attention.
Police describe the suspect as a black male in his mid-20s, approximately 5-foot, 10-inches tall, 150 to 175 pounds, black hair, and wearing a black hoody, black sweat pants, and carrying a white plastic bag.
North Texas police departments have reported a rash of armed robberies including the armed robbery of the Knox Truck Stop in Forney and two armed robberies of Cash Stores in Terrell and Seagoville which are believed to be perpetrated by the same individuals.
The Mesquite Police Department is also investigating the armed robberies of Burger King on Town East Boulevard and the Shell Gas Station at 4701 North Galloway Avenue. Both robberies occurred on January 12, 2016, and police believe they are related.
