KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A convicted sex offender who was facing trial for sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by sexual contact in Kaufman County died last week as a result of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash.

The man, 48-year-old Michael Glenn Moore, of Murchison, Texas, was the sole occupant of his pickup truck and was not wearing his seatbelt when he crashed Tuesday morning, November 28, 2017. He was airlifted to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas, where he was later pronounced deceased on November 30, 2017.

Moore was in his second day of trial in Kaufman when he failed to appear in court. In an attempt to locate Moore, investigators used coordinates from a GPS ankle monitor, ordered as a condition of his bond, to track his position and later learn of the crash.

Jurors in the trial were dismissed.

The crash was reported at 8:50 a.m. on Farm-to-Market (FM) 773 south of FM 1803 and northeast of FM 3802 — in between Murchison and Ben Wheeler, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety crash report obtained by inForney.com.

Moore was traveling southbound on FM 773 when he traveled across the no passing center stripe, into the northbound lane, and entered a curve in the road at an unsafe speed. He then traveled across the southbound lane and off the west edge of the road, struck a sign, traveled through a barbed-wire fence, and struck a tree head-on.

Moore’s pickup truck overturned and he was ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

“The investigator did not observe any attempt by Unit#1 to brake or correct its path,” states the report.

In 1992, Moore was arrested by the Mesquite Police Department for an alleged aggravated sexual assault of an 8-year-old female victim. He was later convicted in 1999 and placed on eight years probation and required to register as a sex offender for life, according to judicial records obtained by inForney.com.

In 1996, Moore was convicted of driving while intoxicated, 3rd or more, in Ellis County stemming from a 1994 arrest by the Waxahachie Police Department, according to those records.

Earlier this year, Moore was arrested in Anderson County on similar charges, released, and later arrested on a Kaufman County warrant in Smith County by the U.S. Marshal’s Service.
