CRANDALL, Texas — The Crandall Police Department arrest four individuals early Wednesday morning for allegedly stealing copper wire, copper tubing, and other metal materials from homes under construction in the Heartland area.

Of the four arrested, one was 17 years old and another was 15 years old, according to Crandall Police Department Chief Dean Winters.

Winters says an officer was on patrol in the Heartland community at approximately 3:30 a.m. when the officer observed a white four-door pickup truck commit a traffic offense. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver eluded the officer.

The police officer later located the truck with its lights off and parked on a nearby street.

“As the officer approached the vehicle he observed bulk copper wiring, metal and a hand-made ladder in the bed of the truck,” stated Winters. “Upon inspection of the passenger area of the vehicle, the officer located four individuals hiding in the back seat.”

The officer took all four individuals, who were described as uncooperative, into custody.

Arrested were 35-year-old Margarita Infante, her 17-year-old daughter, Eolalia Solis, and 31-year-old Miriam Alvarado. A 15-year-old male was also arrested and identified as a family member. All four are Corsicana residents.

“Upon further investigation, the subjects were found to be in possession of bolt cutters, wire cutters, walkie-talkie radios, head lamp flashlights, and other miscellaneous tools used in metal theft,” stated Winters.

“Officers later found three separate homes under construction in Heartland that had copper wiring, copper tubing, and other metals taken from the location,” stated Winters. “Construction site personnel confirmed the missing property.”

Winters says all four will face a combined total of 28 charges for theft of materials aluminum, copper, bronze, and brass less than $30,000, organized criminal activity, and felony criminal mischief.

The three adults were transported to the Kaufman County Jail where they are awaiting arraignment and the juvenile was taken to the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center.

Additional charges are pending further investigation.
