CRANDALL, Texas — The Crandall Police Department is offering a word of advice for homeowners this holiday season — don’t leave unwrapped gift boxes at the curb and allow would-be burglars window shop your house.
The police department, in a Facebook post, says the advice applies not only to the holiday season but anytime you leave boxes for trash pickup to try and discard the box in another manner such as breaking the box down so that it will fit in a trash bag, recycling the box, or, if permissible in your area, burning the box.
In Crandall, citizens can recycle off-site at a cardboard recycle bin located at Crandall High School. Boxes need to be clean and flattened.
In the city limits of Forney, CWD offers curb-side pickup for recycling in green recycling bins. Cardboard boxes should be broke down in a manner to fit into the bin or into a larger unmarked cardboard box.
Outside of the city limits of Forney, the Environmental Co-op has a drop-off location at the Precinct 2 Maintenance Barn located at the intersection of Farm-to-Market (FM) 741 and FM 2932. Drop off is available between Monday and Friday from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
In Kaufman, recycling is available through the Environmental Co-op at the Kaufman Citizen’s Convenience Station located at East First North and Alton Street between Wednesday and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.
In Terrell, the Environmental Co-op offers a 24-hour drop-off location for paper and cardboard, according to Environmental Co-op Executive Director Charles Whitaker. The drop-off location is located at 1100 Airport Road in Terrell, Texas — approximately half a mile from State Highway 34.
In the Kemp area, the Environmental Co-op offers a recycling and convenience station at 6520 Plainview Drive off U.S. Highway 175 on the north side of the frontage road between Monday and Friday from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
The Environmental Co-op, a non-profit organization serving Kaufman County and surrounding areas, encourages individuals to become a member for $20 a year per household. The co-op typically recycles between a million and a million-and-a-half pounds per year and has already surpassed the million pound mark this year, said Whitaker.
