TERRELL, Texas — A domestic disturbance call lead to two arrests, the seizure of more than four pounds of marijuana, and other charges.

TERRELL, Texas — A domestic disturbance call lead to two arrests, the seizure of more than four pounds of marijuana, and other charges.

“On Tuesday, July 26th, 2016 at approximately 7:32 p.m., Terrell Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Town North Drive Terrell in reference to a domestic in progress,” according to Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom.

Sansom says the two parties involved in the disturbance were separated within the same block of the street when police arrived.

“During the course of investigating the disturbance, a duffle bag was brought to the male subject by a neighbor,” stated Sansom. “He indicated it had been thrown in his back yard.”

“The subject was evasive about the bag and its contents,” stated Sansom. “The female then came and took the bag and attempted secure it from view.”

Two officers smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from the bag and, through a mesh portion of the bag, saw a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, according to Sansom.

“No one wanted to claim ownership of the bag, yet both had been seen in possession of it,” stated Sansom. “Based on probable cause, the bag was searched and suspected marijuana was seized.”

Sansom says the marijuana, including packing, weighed 1,870 grams.

30-year-old Ashley Dawn Hyde and 35-year-old Jose Lorenzo Ventura were arrested for possession of marijuana greater than four ounces and less than or equal to five pounds. Both were transported to the Terrell Police Department Municipal Jail. Hyde faces an additional charge for simple assault, family violence, according to Sansom.

Approximately an hour after the initial disturbance, the Terrell Police Department Narcotics Team executed a search warrant at 208 Town North Drive and seized a green glass bong, an orange pill bottle with approximately 13.9 grams of Alprazolam which was not consistent with the quantity or dosage amounts listed on an expired prescription, two blue glass pipes, two clear bags of suspected marijuana weighing approximately 30 grams, and several other items of paraphernalia.

Hyde and Ventura were charged with possession of a controlled substance penalty group 3 less than 28 grams due to the drugs seized during the execution of the search warrant.

Sansom says the initial disturbance involved an argument over a large sum of cash and Hyde reportedly slapped Ventura across the face at one point in the disturbance.

“A weapon was involved but no threat or use of the weapon was reported during the incident,” stated Sansom.

Ventura was released from the Kaufman County Jail on Thursday morning after posting $45,000 in bonds. Hyde remains jailed on bonds totaling $65,000.
