Forney Fire and Police Departments see decrease in calls for February

Calls for service dropped from January to February 2013 for the Forney Fire Department, though having three less days in the month did contribute to that decline. The Forney Police Department also saw a slight decrease in calls for service from January to February.

The FFD responded to 310 calls in January but only 232 calls in the month of February. The FPD responded to 1734 calls in January and 1669 in February. They averaged more calls per day in February, at about 60 calls a day.

The biggest decrease in calls came from a dramatic drop in vehicle accidents. Forney generally averages 70-80 accidents each month and had 78 accidents in January. February saw only 44 accidents in the City. There have been no fatal accidents in Forney in the first two months of 2013. Forney Police officers issued 173 traffic citations in January and 278 in February.

Burglaries also saw a major drop in February as there were no reported residential burglaries, only one burglary of a building, and vehicle burglaries dropped from 15 in January to just 3 in February. Forney residents have been on high alert for vehicle burglars at local businesses, and those extra eyes as well as extra police patrol seems to have curbed the thieves for now.

The Forney Police Department responded to 76 disturbance calls in January but only 49 disturbance calls in February. There was also a two-thirds drop in the number of telephone harassment calls in February.

City Manager Brian Brooks commended the police department at the March 19th City Council meeting for their hard work during the β€œGreat Texas Warrant Roundup” event that was held earlier this month. The officers cleared 92 warrants from the system and those warrants resulted in over $17,000 of fines and fees being collected. This is the first year Forney has participated in the event.
