Forney Police Chief Rick Barnes said that the vehicle burglaries in those parking lots use to happen when people would leave their vehicles unlocked. Burglars would simply walk through the lot checking door handles on the cars. If the door was unlocked, they would grab what they wanted out of the car and walk away.

Vehicle burglars are now becoming more brazen, even in the middle of the day. The Chief said there has been an increase of vehicle windows being smashed, with the burglars then removing money, stereos, purses, and even laptops from the vehicles. The warmer the weather gets, the higher the vehicle burglary stats tend to rise. Forney police handled 105 reported vehicle burglaries in 2012. There were 15 vehicle burglaries in the City of Forney in just the month of January 2013.
The best way to prevent yourself from becoming a victim of these thieves is to make sure you lock your car doors, roll up your windows, and remove all valuables, or at least hide them where they are not easily visible to a thief. If you notice someone behaving suspiciously in a parking lot, peering in car windows, or lingering in the lot, call the Forney Police Department and report the activity. The FPD non-emergency number is (972) 564-7600. If you witness a crime occurring, call 9-1-1.
