KAUFMAN, Texas — A Kaufman County grand jury returned four indictments for a woman who crashed into a Kaufman, Texas, gas station, rammed a gas pump, and fled from police before wrecking into an 18-wheeler and being tasered by police.
In November 2015, 38-year-old Tisha Nocole Beard allegedly threatened several individuals at the Circle K gas station at the intersection of Washington Street and U.S. Highway 175 before ramming her vehicle repeatedly into a gas pump, ramming into the front of the gas station, and fleeing the scene as officers were responding.
Beared allegedly attempted to strike a responding officer as she fled north on Washington Street where she later wrecked into an 18-wheeler, according to police at the time of the incident.
Beard was indicted by the grand jury on one count of aggravated assault of a public servant, one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of criminal mischief greater than or equal to $2,500 and less than $30,000, and one count of evading arrest or detention with a vehicle.
Beard was later arrested after Kaufman Police Officers and the Kaufman County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office boxed Beard in at the scene of the wreck.
As officers approached Beard, Kaufman Police Department Captain Ed Black says Beard was either threatening to injure herself or had injured herself with a knife. Officers broke a window and tasered the woman to prevent any or further injuries with the knife.
As officers were arresting the woman, Black says she told police she had attempted to catch her house on fire and left the stove on at the house on West 10th Street. Firefighters were able to respond and determine the house was clear of any present danger.
Beard was transported to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Kaufman where she was treated and released into police custody.
Beard remains jailed at the Kaufman County Jail on bonds totaling $225,000.
