FORNEY, Texas — A high-speed police chase on Friday night ended in a crash — sending the suspect to an area hospital.
A Precinct 2 Constable's Office deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for running a stop sign and speeding in Windmill Farms when the driver accelerated and fled from the deputy, Constable Jason Johnson told inForney.com.
The suspect fled at speeds between 80 to 100 miles per hour before losing control and crashing into two brick mailboxes on Single Tree Drive. The driver then fled on foot, through several backyards, and entered a residence through an open garage, according to Johnson.
The suspect asked the residents to hid him but was instead wrestled to the ground and held down until police arrived, Johnson said.
The driver, an 18-year-old male, allegedly fled for not having a drivers license and was driving a family member's car. He now faces charges for evading arrest, no drivers license, no insurance, expired registration, failing to stop at a designated point, and speeding.
He was taken by CareFlite ambulance, in police custody, to Baylor, Scott, and White Medical Center in Sunnyvale, Texas, with minor injuries.
The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety assisted, according to Johnson.
