KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A high-speed pursuit from Mesquite, Texas, ended near the East Fork Trinity River in Kaufman County on Friday afternoon.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A high-speed pursuit from Mesquite, Texas, ended near the East Fork Trinity River in Kaufman County on Friday afternoon.
The pursuit began before 5 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2014, in Mesquite where it traveled along eastbound U.S. Highway 80 until its conclusion near the East Fork Trinity River in Kaufman County.
Lt. G.T. Caldwell of the Mesquite Police Department identified the driver of the vehicle as 24-year-old James Bristow. The vehicle, a gold Ford F-250 was reported stolen out of Forney on May 21, 2015.
A friend of the vehicle owner notified the Mesquite Police Department near Kearny Street and Bryan Belt Line Road he had spotted and was following the vehicle, stated Caldwell. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle on the U.S. Highway 80 service road near Belt Line Road when the driver fled eastbound on U.S. Highway 80.
The pursuit exited Lawson Road and continued on the service road until Bristow drove the vehicle off the road into a thick brushy area with water, stated Caldwell. Bristow attempted to swim at times but was quickly apprehended.
A female in the vehicle was also apprehended at the scene but was not likely facing charges, according to Caldwell.
A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter assisted in the pursuit. The Forney Police Department and Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office were also notified.
Onlooker delays were present in the area due to the police activity.
