Iraq War veteran falls victim to fourth burglary, firearm stolen

FORNEY, Texas — An Iraq War veteran, who was presented a home in Forney in 2012 from the Military Warriors Support Foundation and Bank of America, has fallen victim to a burglary for the fourth time in 20 months.

FORNEY, Texas — An Iraq War veteran, who was presented a home in Forney in 2012 from the Military Warriors Support Foundation and Bank of America, has fallen victim to a burglary for the fourth time in 20 months.

In each incident, Army Sergeant Kevin Bowden captured the culprit on home surveillance video.

In the latest incident, on January 27, 2017, at approximately 3 a.m., Bowden’s vehicle was burglarized and a Colt 1911 handgun was stolen.

Surveillance video captures an unidentified male subject enter Bowden’s unlocked SUV which was parked in his driveway in the 1400 block of Vista Ridge Drive in the Diamond Creek neighborhood, according to a release from the Forney Police Department on Thursday.

“The suspect is seen wearing a hoodie and a back pack in the video,” stated the department.

Bowden says his family is left with an uneasy feeling and his children are frightened by the possibility burglars will return.

Two men, 22-year-old Lance Pernell Williams and 26-year-old Larry Donnell Williams, were arrested in connection with one of the burglaries in 2015. Police served a search warrant at their home, just a few doors down from Bowden’s home, and recovered nearly all of Bowden’s belongings.

Forney Police Department Captain Jason “Rocky” Ray says residents should remove valuables from the vehicles and make sure they are locked.

“Possibly 99 percent of all vehicle burglary reports we receive are for unlocked vehicles,” Ray told inForney.com. “Very rarely do we get a vehicle burglary with forced entry.”

Ray says burglars will walk down the street and just lift door handles until they find an unlocked vehicle to burglarize. “They may hit five or six cars on one street,” he said.

Police are asking anyone who may be able to provide details on the identity of the person in the video to contact the Forney Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at (972) 564-7600. Additionally, information can be left with the Kaufman County Crime Stoppers at 1 (877) 847-7522.

In July 2012, Bowden and his family were presented a home in the Diamond Creek neighborhood of Forney through a partnership with Bank of America and Military Warriors Support Foundation, a story inForney.com covered at the time. Bowden served two tours in Iraq before sustaining a traumatic brain injury in a roadside bomb attack in Iraq in April 2008.
