KAUFMAN, Texas — Its been 22 years since 25-year-old Francisco Sanchez Salazar was shot to death at the City Coin Laundry in Kaufman.

Earlier today, a Kaufman County Grand Jury indicted Alvaro Iglesias Rodriguez with one count of murder in connection with the killing.

Last week, Rodriquez was arrested in Wichita, Kansas, after his face appeared on the first edition of the Kaufman County’ Most Wanted list just two months ago. An anonymous tipster led police to Rodriguez’s whereabouts.

Rodriguez was allegedly the gunman who shot Salazar approximately 14 times on the night of June 9, 1994, at the City Coin Laundry. He was identified by police at the time of the murder but investigators say he fled to Mexico.

Family members tell police Rodriguez crossed the border into Mexico just two days after the killing where he stayed for approximately three years before returning to the United States where he settled in Wichita, Kansas. Rodriguez was living under the name Mauricio San Miguel Reyes.

Investigators with the Kaufman Police Department and the Wichita Police Department identified Rodriguez by fingerprint cards associated with cases in Kaufman County and in Wichita.

The Kaufman Police Department also receive invaluable insight from the lead detective, Thomas Bohn, who originally worked the case in 1994. After leaving the department, Bohn returned in 2014.

“This is proof once again that the Crime Stoppers program works,” Kaufman Police Department Captain Ed Black stated after the arrest.
