Just before 10 a.m. on Thursday morning, October 3, 2013, the Kaufman County Courthouse, annex building, tax office, and Public Defender's office were evacuated because of a bomb threat that was called into the District Attorney's Office.
According to Kaufman County officials, the caller stated a bomb would detonate in 10 minutes. Local authorities were contacted and the Garland Bomb Squad was placed on standby as Kaufman County deputies searched the buildings.
“Nothing suspicious was found,” said Kaufman County Judge Bruce Wood after a “thorough search by the deputies.” The evacuation lasted a little under an hour and county employees have been allowed back into the buildings.
Prisoners awaiting trial were also evacuated from the building and placed back into their transportation vehicles. Those same prisoners could be seen re-entering the building after the all-clear from the Sheriff's Office.
The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office is now conducting an investigation to determined who placed the call.
