CRANDALL, Texas — A Kaufman County grand jury has indicted former Crandall Police Department Chief Billy Kilgore on charges of tampering and theft of firearms.
Last Friday, the grand jury returned an indictment for tampering or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair and two counts of theft of a firearm, according to an indictment sheet released earlier today.
Kilgore, then 41, was accused of stealing a department issued AR-15 rifle, a department issued shotgun, and two other weapons from the department's evidence room — pawning some of the firearms, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by inForney.com.
The affidavit also alleges Kilgore took the evidence room log book and cash which was seized from a drug investigation.
The firearms, evidence room log book, and the cash were found to be missing after a department audit after the reinstatement of Police Chief Dean Winters.
