KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A Kaufman County grand jury has indicted a 24-year-old man for striking two police vehicles during a pursuit and manhunt in December 2016.

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A Kaufman County grand jury has indicted a 24-year-old man for striking two police vehicles during a pursuit and manhunt in December 2016.

On February 10, 2017, the grand jury returned two indictments for aggravated assault against a public servant, one count for aggravated assault threaten with a deadly weapon, and one count for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle for 24-year-old Gaylon Aaron Sypert.

Sypert fled from a Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office deputy after he was observed going the wrong way on a one-way street. Speeds during the pursuit were at times in excess of 100 miles per hour and Sypert allegedly struck two Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office deputy’s vehicles and a civilian’s vehicle.

The pursuit ended, after traveling through Terrell, in the Post Oak Bend area of Kaufman County when Sypert bailed on foot and led police and an assisting Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter on an approximate 40-minute manhunt.

Sypert remains jailed at the Kaufman County Jail on bonds totaling $451,500.
