In comparison to 2016, the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office investigated three homicides in 2017, up from two; one kidnapping/abduction case, down from four; 49 sex offenses, down from 51; seven robberies, down from 15; 431 assaults, up from 425; 217 burglaries, down from 221; 434 larceny/theft, up from 350; 99 vehicle thefts, up from 96; 189 fraud offenses, down from 192; and 262 drug/narcotics cases, down from 204.
The Communications Division answered 30,983 emergency 911 calls, 35,779 administrative calls, and 53,456 calls for service, or 329.36 calls for service per day.
Deputies reported 8,495 incidents and, of which, forwarded 4,513 to the Criminal Investigations Division (CID). 2,721 cases were cleared by CID for a clearance rate of 60.2 percent as compared to the state average of 32.3 percent.
606 crimes against persons were assigned in 2017, with 306 filed, and 465 cleared. 1,238 property crimes were assigned with 405 filed and 176 cleared — amounting to $2,602,421 in property recovered.
Deputies also made 1,379 arrests and performed 48,554 patrol security checks throughout the county.
24 narcotics arrests were made which resulted in the seizure of 2,654 grams of narcotics, 4.5 pounds of marijuana, 10 firearms, and eight vehicles. 189 narcotics cases were filed and 12 search warrants were executed.
Department K-9 units made 58 arrests and seized 376 grams of narcotics. K-9 units also responded to 25 call outs, 210 searches, 1,078 calls for service, and 69 agency assists.
The Kaufman County Jail housed an average of 404 inmates per day with an average of 14.04 daily admissions and 14.03 daily releases. The jail housed 1,246 out-of-county inmates, 224 Texas Department of Criminal Justice inmates, and received $1,951,614.24 in inmate housing revenue.
The warrant division received 10,417 warrants for service with 7,716 served of recall for a daily average of 49.67 warrants.
Animal Control picked up 861 dogs and 521 cats throughout the county.
1,610 civil documents were received for process and 1,588 were served or recalled.
The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement unit made 3,030 contacts and issued 1,924 equipment, registration, or inspection violations and 1,106 moving or overweight violations which amounted to $409,468.86 in citation fines.
The Environmental Division handled 96 illegal dumpings, 48 public nuisances, two health and safety inspections, three agency assists, and issued two citations. Their efforts yielded 19 cleanups.
Deputies performed 458 in-state pickups, 20 out-of-state pickups, 94 bench warrant transports, 88 medical appointment transports, and 365 Texas Department of Criminal Justice transports for a total transports of 1,025.
Court transports included 781 to county court, 1,282 to district court, 110 to juvenile court, 1,832 to federal court, and 28 to Child Protective Services court for a total court transports of 4,033.
The sheriff's office saved $78,969 by performing in-house training with 1,097 students for a total of 1,523 course hours.
