KAUFMAN, Texas — A Kaufman Independent School District school resource office was indicted earlier this month and later turned himself in on sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by sexual contact charges stemming back to 2009 and 2010.
Daniel Carrier, of Kaufman, Texas, reportedly turned himself in early Tuesday morning, March 8, 2016, and was released shortly thereafter on $10,000 bonds on each charge.
According to an indictment sheet, Carrier was indicted by a Kaufman County Grand Jury on March 4, 2016, on one count of sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child by sexual contact which stem back to 2010 and 2009, respectively.
Officials say Carrier has only been with the school district police department for approximately two years, since approximately 2014, and, prior to that, was an officer with the Kaufman Police Department.
The offense did not involve a student while Carrier was a school resource officer, according to Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office Captain Fred Klingelberger.
The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the charges because the offense occurred in unincorporated Kaufman County.
Carrier was also reprimanded by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement for failing to complete legislatively required continuing education, according to a March 3, 2016, meeting agenda.
On Wednesday night, in a statement, Kaufman ISD Superintendent Lori Blaylock said Carrier had resigned his position with the district.
Kaufman ISD takes the safety of our students very seriously," stated Blaylock. "Our schools are extremely well monitored and safe for all students.
