KAUFMAN, Texas — A 48-year-old man, Timothy Blon Hopkins, of Kaufman, Texas, has been sentenced to 28 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of sexually assaulting a family member, District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley announced.

The trial, which lasted three days, took place in the 86th District Court of Kaufman County before Honorable Judge Casey Blair.

The jury convicted Hopkins of the first-degree felony offense of Sexual Assault Enhanced, sentencing him to nearly three decades behind bars.

The evidence presented during the trial revealed that Hopkins sexually assaulted his then 17-year-old family member on April 4, 2020. The prosecution presented conclusive medical and DNA evidence to support the charges. Further punishment evidence revealed that Hopkins had previously been sentenced for Aggravated Robbery.

Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Ashley Holman and Robyn Beckham, Investigator Brandi Dial, and paralegal Amanda Morris led the prosecution. The District Attorney's Office also extended its gratitude to the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office, the Children's Advocacy Center for Kaufman County, and the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Laboratory for their work on the case.

"We express our gratitude for the thorough investigation from our law enforcement partners and the brave voice of the Survivor - who all came together to ensure that justice was done and that a sexual predator is off our streets," said District Attorney Wiley.
