KAUFMAN, Texas — The Kaufman Police Department arrested two individuals after they allegedly stole two four-wheelers from a local wrecker service and led police on a brief pursuit.

At approximately 9:26 p.m., police received a 911 call about the theft of the two four-wheelers after the reporting party witnessed the vehicle leaving their location with the four-wheelers.

A short time later, a Kaufman Police Department officer witnessed the vehicle traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 175 within the Kaufman city limits and attempted to stop the vehicle. The vehicle, a flat-bed pickup truck, then attempted to flee from police.

The truck exited near Farm-to-Market (FM) 2578 and one of the four-wheelers fell from the truck’s bed onto the service road leading to the FM 2578 overpass. The truck took the overpass to the south service road and continued fleeing westbound, came to a slow roll, and eventually stopped between FM 2578 and the FM 1390 exit.

Arrested were 34-year-old Jeffrey Armstrong and 36-year-old Tina Baumgartner. The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office charged the two with theft of property between $1,500 and $20,000. Armstrong is facing additional charges from the Kaufman Police Department for evading arrest with a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance, meth, which was seized at the time of the arrest, according to Kaufman Police Department Captain Ed Black.

Armstrong is being held at the Kaufman County Jail on bonds totaling $50,000 and Baumgartner is being held on a $7,500 bond.
