KEMP, Texas — A man turned himself in Wednesday morning after leading police on a two-hour manhunt Tuesday night, according to the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office.
Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office Captain Fred Klingelberger said police deputies were called to the Walmart Neighborhood Market grocery store in Kemp at approximately 7:19 p.m. for a man who was burglarizing several vehicles in the parking lot.
The man fled the grocery store, located on State Highway 274, on foot towards County Road (CR) 4031 and 4061 where deputies, a Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, and a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter searched for approximately two hours before calling off the manhunt at approximately 9:35 p.m. without locating the suspect.
Klingelberger said several area residents called police and reported a man, matching the description of the suspect, had knocked on their doors asking for help.
Tuesday night, Klingelberger said the suspect had been identified and police would follow up with a warrant. On Wednesday morning, 29-year-old Lesimule Kashien Oliver turned himself into the Kemp Police Department, stated Klingelberger.
Oliver was booked into the Kaufman County Jail on one count of burglary of a vehicle and is awaiting arraignment. Oliver could also face additional charges, according to police.
