TERRELL, Texas — A man was arrested after an armed standoff and shooting incident near Terrell on Wednesday.
The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office 911 Dispatch Center received a call from a man in the 2200 block of County Road 319 advising he was in need of psychological help.
The man also told dispatchers he didn't want police to respond, he had firearms in the house, and had been drinking. Dispatchers advised responding officers the man had prior notifications for violent and hostile behavior towards law enforcement.
The man refused to meet and speak with officers at the road and later advised dispatch he was retrieving his AR-15 and was preparing to load the firearm and start shooting. A deputy reported gunshots from the residence, prompting an area containment surrounding the residence on CR 319 which included the closure of the road near FM 429.
A Kaufman County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team, the Precinct 1 & 3 Constable's Offices, and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to assist.
Police deployed a drone in an effort to safely observe the man who later exited his residence, entered his vehicle, and attempted to drive from CR 319 to FM 429 — where he was contained and ultimately taken into custody.
The man, whose identity was not released at the time of press, is facing charges for deadly conduct, unlawful carrying of a firearm, and driving while intoxicated, Kaufman County Sheriff Bryan Beavers tells inForney.com.
Beavers praised the various departments at the scene for their collaboration which effected the safe resolution of the incident.
A crime scene remains active while police await and execute a search warrant of the residence, after which, additional charges may be filed.
