KAUFMAN, Texas — A man was arrested Saturday night after allegedly holding his girlfriend and her 80-year-old grandmother against their will all day today, according to the Kaufman Police Department.

53-year-old Jamie Johnson was booked on two charges of unlawful restraint and violation of a protective order, according to Kaufman Police Department Captain Ed Black.

Black says police were notified of the incident after Johnson’s girlfriend was able to call out and notify a family member she and her grandmother were being held against their will and had been all day. That family member then contacted the Kaufman Police Department.

Police responded to the home in the 1000 block of Overlook Drive where a standoff ensued for approximately an hour. Black says the girlfriend was able to escape and the grandmother was released by Johnson a short time later. Johnson peacefully surrendered without further incident.

The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the call.

Johnson had recently been released from the Kaufman County Jail, according to police. Jail records were not immediately available Saturday night to confirm what Johnson was being held on before being released.

Johnson is reportedly a former in-law to Eric Williams who is on Texas’ Death Row for the murders of former Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland, his wife, Cynthia, and Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse in 2013.

The home where the standoff occurred, according to property records and a witness speaking to inForney.com, belongs to Williams’ former parents-in-law. Kim Lene Williams, who divorced Williams after their indictments in the murders, is serving a 40-year prison sentence as an accomplice in the murders.
