FORNEY, Texas —A Dallas man was federally indicted on charges stemming from a shooting incident in Forney and a police chase that ended in the discovery of a woman's body in the trunk of the suspect's vehicle.

A federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment earlier this month, which was unsealed today and obtained by inForney.com, charging 33-year-old Freddie Thomas Gilbert of Dallas, Texas, with one count possession of a firearm by a felon and one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Gilbert will remain in custody pending further court hearings, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Northern District of Texas.

Gilbert, according to police, fired a gun at a vehicle on U.S. Highway 80 near County Road 212 in Forney. A Kaufman County Sheriff's Office deputy located Gilbert's vehicle on eastbound Interstate 20 and conducted a traffic stop. Gilbert initially stopped for the deputy but fled at speeds in excess of 110 miles per hour before wrecking near mile marker 511.

Police located the body 19-year-old Jac Quisha Isaac of Dallas, Texas, in Gilbert's trunk. She had a visible gunshot would to her head, according to the indictment. A Taurus .38 caliber was recovered from the side pocket of the driver's door which was loaded with five bullets, two of which were spent.

A detectable amount of cocaine was also discovered in the driver's door pocket.

"Prior to October 29, 2017, Gilbert had been convicted in the state of Louisiana and served jail time for felony drug offenses," according to the U.S. Attorney's release.

If convicted, Gilbert faces up to 10 years in federal prison for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in federal prison and a $1,000,000 fine for the possession of a controlled substance count.

Gilbert remains uncharged in Isaac's death which remains under investigation. He also faces four charges from the Forney Police Department for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon stemming from the shooting incident.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Texas Department of Public Safety, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, and the Forney Police Department are investigating the case.
