TERRELL, Texas — The Terrell Police Department is investigating a Saturday night shooting which resulted in one person being shot multiple times and airlifted to a Dallas-area hospital. The shooter remains at large, according to police.
TERRELL, Texas — The Terrell Police Department is investigating a Saturday night shooting which resulted in one person being shot multiple times and airlifted to a Dallas-area hospital. The shooter remains at large, according to police.
At approximately 10 p.m., the Terrell Police Department and Terrell Fire Department responded to the parking lot of Fast Eddie's for a man who was shot multiple times. He was taken by CareFlite ambulance to the Terrell Municipal Airport where he was further transported by CareFlite medical helicopter to a Dallas-area hospital in unknown condition.
The man who was shot was identified by police as 19-year-old Mathew Riley of Quinlan, Texas. Riley and 19-year-old Kaden Weigand, also of Quinlan, had traveled to Terrell in a white Chevrolet pickup to meet a black male, known as "Grizzly," at Taco Bell to purchase marijuana.
Weigand told police Riley went inside Taco Bell to meet with Grizzly when he observed him running out of the Taco Bell being chased by a black male. Riley jumped into the passenger seat of the truck in an attempt to flee the man who also jumped in the passenger side of the truck and began shooting Riley, according to Weigand's statements to police.
Police say Weigand fled the scene in the truck, driving erratic, in an attempt to get the shooter out of the truck. The shooter was thrown from the truck and fled on foot south from West Moore Avenue.
Meanwhile, Weigand drove to the parking lot of Fast Eddies where they sought help.
The shooter remains at large. Police are asking anyone with information on "Grizzly" is asked to contact the Terrell Police Department at (469) 474-2700.
A portion of West Moore Avenue, between South Anne Street and South Hattie Street, was closed for nearly two-and-a-half hours last night. Additionally, a portion of Fast Eddies parking lot was closed while police collected evidence from the white Chevrolet pickup which was determined to have been stolen out of Hunt County.
The case remains active and ongoing, Terrell Police Department spokesperson Officer C. Lee told inForney.com.
Kaufman County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
Riley's current condition is unknown.
