KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A man wanted on multiple warrants out of Kaufman County was arrested following a vehicle and foot pursuit in the area of Interstate 20 and Farm-to-Market (FM) 429.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office investigators were attempting to make contact with a known wanted individual, identified as Jason Jefferys, according to Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Captain Fred Klingelberger.

Jefferys was located and fled in a vehicle with a female in the area of County Road 136 and Bradeen Drive and County Road 137 — just south of Interstate 20 and west of FM 429.

After a brief vehicle pursuit in the area, Jefferys abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot and, at one point, entered a woman’s home. The woman locked herself in a closet and called 911. Jefferys then fled on foot north, across Interstate 20, and into a pasture in the area of FM 429, Interstate 20, County Road 357, and County Road 309.

Authorities surrounded the pasture and closed in on Jefferys at approximately 4:30 p.m. where officers were forced to taser Jeffreys for “aggressive noncompliance” before placing him into custody, according to Klingelberger. Jefferys was evaluated by EMS on scene and transported to the Kaufman County Jail.

Jefferys was wanted on two warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two warrants for felony evading, and two warrants for assault causing bodily injury, stated Klingelberger. Jefferys will now face additional charges for evading arrest and evading arrest in a vehicle.

The female in the vehicle with Jefferys was also arrested. It's unknown what charges, if any, she may be facing at this time.

The Texas Department of Public Safety, the Terrell Police Department, the Terrell Police Department Fire Marshal, the Kaufman County Fire Marshal’s Office, a K-9 unit, and Precinct 2 and 3 Constable’s Office assisted Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office. A Dallas Police Department helicopter was also requested for assistance.

Jefferys has a criminal history in Kaufman County dating back to 2001 and includes charges for possession of marijuana, criminal trespass, burglary of a habitation, several theft charges, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, unsafe speed, failure to appear, several aggravated assaults with a deadly weapon, and burglary of a building.
