FORNEY, Texas — A Mesquite Police Department police officer, and Forney resident, was indicted by a Kaufman County grand jury on one count of injury to a child and has been placed on paid administrative leave.

On November 29, 2016, the grand jury returned the indictment on one count of injury to a child, a state jail felony, for 34-year-old Daniel Higginson.

According to the indictment sheet unsealed earlier today and obtained by inForney.com, Higginson allegedly pulled the arms of a child, who was 14 years of age or younger, behind their back and pulled up on them, causing injury, and also sat on and pushed on the child’s stomach.

The incident allegedly occurred on or about August 9, 2015, according to the indictment sheet.

During the same time frame, Child Protective Services was investigating allegations of physical abuse to a child, according to documents obtained by inForney.com.

The Mesquite Police Department was notified of the indictment on November 30, 2016, Mesquite Police Department Lt. Brian Parrish said in a statement to inForney.com.

“Officer Higginson was placed on administrative leave with pay on December 1, 2016,” stated Parrish.

Higginson, who has been with the Mesquite Police Department for five years, turned himself in to the Kaufman County Jail earlier this morning and was released the same day after posting bond.

The indictment sheet recommended a $25,000 bond.
