FORNEY, Texas β€” A police pursuit of an armed 18-year-old assault suspect from Mesquite, Texas, ended in Kaufman County on Wednesday morning.

At approximately 10:35 a.m., the Mesquite Police Department responded to a disturbance in progress in the 1500 block of Liberty Lane, Mesquite Police Department Lieutenant Brian Parrish told inForney.com.

The suspect in the disturbance, later identified as 18-year-old Robert Castello-Diaz, pointed a handgun at the first arriving officer before fleeing the scene on foot through an alley, according to Parrish.

Castello-Diaz was located by police officers approximately a block from the residence in a pickup truck on Range Drive. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but Castello-Diaz fled, according to Parrish.

Parrish says Castello-Diaz fled north on North Bletline Road and struck another vehicle in the intersection of North Beltline Road and the U.S. Highway 80 service road.

From North Beltline Road, the pursuit turned east on eastbound U.S. Highway 80 through Sunnyvale and into Kaufman County where it ended in a wreck just east of the Dallas County Line.

Castello-Diaz crashed the pickup truck through the fence of the Auto Mart auto dealership on the south service road of U.S. Highway 80. The truck struck at least two other vehicles in the dealership lot.

Castello-Diaz was taken into custody without further incident. He now faces charges for burglary of a habitation with intent to commit felony, evading arrest, and aggravated assault on a public servant.

Parrish says the first arriving officer received minor injuries when he jumped from a porch at the home on Liberty Lane to avoid possible injuries from Castello-Diaz pointing the handgun in his direction.

The victim in the disturbance told police Castello-Diaz struck her with a brick, according to Parrish.
