Motion for continuance granted in murder trial of Eric Williams

Dallas County District Judge Mike Snipes granted a motion for continuance in the Eric Williams murder trial this morning, May 21, 2014, at the Rockwall County Courthouse.

The motion for continuance was requested by Eric Williams' defense attorney Matthew Seymour who cited the need for additional time because of the massive amount of evidence in the case against Williams and his alleged involvement in the murders of Kaufman County Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse, Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland, and his wife, Cynthia, last year.

The new trial date has been set for December 1, 2014, with jury selection scheduled to begin on September 22, 2014.

One of the most recent evidentiary discoveries known to the public were two guns found by a Texas Department of Public Safety dive team at the bottom of Lake Tawakoni near the Highway 276 “two mile bridge” in Hunt County.

One of the guns, identified as a .357 in an affidavit, is currently being examined for forensic evidence which authorities believe may link it to the murder of Mark Hasse. The other gun is directly linked to Kim Williams, Eric Williams' wife, through purchase records.
