FORNEY, Texas — The lone athlete charged as an adult in the Forney High School sexual assault investigation is out of jail tonight on a $75,000 bond. The remaining juveniles will more than likely spend the weekend in the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center.
The Kaufman County Court at Law judge detained the remaining juvenile suspects during a hearing Friday morning and ordered that they be held in custody until a psychological evaluation and home study could be completed on each player.
The final student, who had remained at large, is now in custody according to the Kaufman County Sheriff's office. The student turned himself in on Friday.
Forney ISD administration will not entertain questions about the matter, but rather provided a written statement Friday afternoon.
“The District’s primary concern is for the health and safety of our students. After initially involving the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department in this matter, the District has and will continue to assist with their investigation in any way possible. Further, any student who participated in these hazing activities will be disciplined in accordance with the Forney ISD Student Code of Conduct and Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code.
We are providing counseling services for any students, parents, staff members or community members who may be struggling with this situation. We have also partnered with the Kaufman County Children’s Advocacy Center to provide additional support as needed.
Because this is an ongoing investigation, the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department has requested that inquiries regarding this situation be addressed to them.
We also ask that the privacy of the students, staff and members of the community be respected.”
The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office confirms they have identified at least two victims during their initial investigation but won’t rule out there are possibly many more.
Allegations continue that incidences like this are not new at Forney High School and there are other victims who have chosen not to come forward. It is unknown at this time exactly when the practice of hazing and sexual assault first occurred.
“We’re thinking years,” Kaufman County Sheriff’s office Lieutenant, Jolie Stewart said Friday. “We don’t know exactly how many yet. This investigation will be lengthy. There is still lots to do.”
Stewart said Forney ISD and it's administrators are being "cooperative" during the investigation.
This is a developing story.
