TERRELL, Texas — The Kaufman County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office nabbed a fugitive who had been on the lam for nearly a year at a motel in Terrell on Wednesday afternoon.

The man, 53-year-old Frank Dorsett of Mesquite, Texas, was sentenced to 10 years probation by a Dallas County jury for his involvement in a fatal accident on Interstate 635 near Military Parkway in a June 2003 wreck which resulted in the death of 16-year-old Rachel Blasingame and seriously injured 16-year-old Tabitha Leonard — the daughter of former Kaufman County Commissioner Ken Leonard.

Dorsett was found guilty of manslaughter, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and fleeing the scene of an accident.

Dorsett violated the terms of his probation in June 2014, according to Dallas County records — just three months before the end of his 10-year probation sentence — and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Dorsett allegedly failed make payments on $69,714,88 in ordered restitution and failed to appear for a court hearing.

Dorsett was tracked down by the constable’s office to the Days Inn motel in Terrell, Texas, where he was arrested today around 2 p.m., Constable Jason Johnson told inForney.com. Dorsett is being held in the Kaufman County Jail until his extradition to Dallas County.

In a story that made national headlines, Dorsett was ordered by then-State District Judge Keith Dean to serve “two 180-day terms, drive a car with no more than 130 horsepower, carry a photo of the wreckage, take daily medication that will make him sick if he drinks alcohol, and put a bumper sticker on his vehicle asking other motorists to call the probation department if he's driving recklessly,” according to an Associated Press report in September 2004.
