TERRELL, Texas — A Terrell Police Department officer and former teacher and coach resigned his position with the department amid an internal affairs and criminal investigation probe, according to officials.
Officer Bradley K. Lewis resigned his position as a police officer with the City of Terrell on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, according to Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom.
Lewis was placed on administrative leave by Chief Jody Lay on Tuesday of this week pending a Terrell Police Department Internal Affairs investigation into an ongoing Quinlan Independent School District Police Department investigation into Lewis’ conduct while employed by the school district as a teacher and coach.
Lewis was ordered to the Terrell Police Department for an interview with the Internal Affairs Unit, according to Sansom who said Lewis later resigned without explanation.
Sansom says the Terrell Police Department is investigating a potential act of official oppression which is ongoing and being conducted in conjunction with the Kaufman County District Attorney’s Office.
“Any allegations or criminal charges stemming from incidents in Quinlan, Texas, would be filed by the Quinlan I.S.D. Police Department with the Hunt County District Attorney's Office,” stated Sansom. “The Terrell Police are actively cooperating with and assisting in any way possible with the Quinlan I.S.D. Police and will continue to do so, if and as requested.”
Sansom says the investigation will likely continue for several weeks.
