HEATH, Texas — A 33-year-old man, Sammy Lee Kimble, of Cypress, Texas, suspected of committing a series of car burglaries in parks across Texas, was apprehended by deputies from Harris County Precinct 5 Constable Ted Heap's Office on Tuesday.
Kimble, linked to at least 15 car burglaries in Harris County parks this year alone, was arrested in a park in the 19300 block of Bridgeland Creek Parkway. At the time of arrest, deputies discovered a glass breaker in his possession, along with a high school class ring reported stolen from a car in Heath, Texas, earlier this year.
Facing five felony charges ranging from burglary to credit card fraud, identity theft, and possession of a controlled substance, Kimble's crimes are not limited to Harris County. He is under investigation for similar crimes in Houston, Katy, Friendswood, Baytown, Pasadena, Cedar Hill, and Heath. Heap's office is assisting each of these agencies with information that may lead to additional charges against Kimble.
This is not Kimble's first encounter with the law. Since 2007, he has been charged with 24 crimes in Harris County alone.
A reward up to $5,000 had been offered by Crime Stopper earlier this month for information leading to Kimble's arrest. Its unknown if a Crime Stoppers tip led to Tuesday's apprehension.
