TALTY, Texas — A high-speed pursuit which began in Talty, Texas, ended more than six hours after it began in Smith County on Tuesday, according to police.
At approximately 9 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, Talty Police Department Chief Mike Hoskins says an officer with his department observed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Interstate 20 at approximately 91 miles per hour.
The vehicle failed to yield to officers and led them on a pursuit through three counties.
The Talty Police Department officer pursued the vehicle into Van Zandt County where his pursuit ended after being accidentally spiked in the Canton area. Authorities in Van Zandt County, as well as Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, continued pursuing the suspect eastbound on Interstate 20 with assistance from a DPS helicopter.
Hoskins says the suspect rammed several vehicles while fleeing on the highway.
The suspect’s vehicle was later successfully spiked, resulting in two tires being deflated, however, the suspect continued to flee and, at times, into oncoming traffic.
Police initiated a pit maneuver which forced the vehicle into a heavily-wooded area in Smith County just off of Interstate 20.
Hoskins says thats when the suspect, later identified as 23-year-old Asti Hill of Shreveport, Louisiana, fled police on foot.
Following an approximate six-and-a-half hour manhunt, Hill was taken into custody, according to Hoskins.
A female passenger in the vehicle was also arrested.
Hill is being held at the Kaufman County Jail on charges for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle on a $100,000 bond, cut in after passing, failure to maintain financial responsibility, no operation license, and unsafe lane change.
