TERRELL, Texas — A Terrell man was arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of a Cedar Hill man in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Terrell on Monday.
TERRELL, Texas — A Terrell man was arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of a Cedar Hill man in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Terrell on Monday.
Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom says police were called at 7:55 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2015, to the Brownstone Apartment Homes complex in the 1300 block of South Adelaide Street in Terrell, Texas, for a report of multiple gunshots.
Police discovered a Cedar Hill man deceased in a 2003 maroon Lincoln four-door having suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Sansom says the man, who has been identified as 42-year-old Raymond Clyde Lampkin of Cedar Hill, Texas, was shot multiple times through the vehicle's windshield.
Police cordoned off a corner of the parking lot and a nearby apartment unit with crime scene tape where they focused their investigation.
The alleged suspect was identified by police as 39-year-old Hubert Vaughn Thomas of Terrell. Sansom says Thomas is the primary suspect and he was arrested while in the crowd gathered around the crime scene. He has been charged with murder.
Police also took another man, identified as 24-year-old Daron Bertram Knight, into custody who was reported to be in possession of a weapon. Police located Bertram in the area of the 600 building with a weapon. Sansom initially said Knight was a person of interest however it is not believed at this time he is involved in the murder, however the investigation continues. Knight was charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon and had an outstanding warrant out of Dallas for failure to identify or give false/fictitious info.
The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety were initially called in to assist with a large gathering crowd near the scene. At 9:32 p.m., additional units were requested due to a fight in the crowd. Sansom says no additional arrests have been made and order had been restored at the complex.
