The incident occured in the 200 block of Lovers Lane at the Virginia Anne Town Homes.

A law enforcement source tells inForney.com the incident began as a domestic disturbance. A woman was briefly held inside the home before being shoved out the front door, according to the source.

The armed individual surrendered around noon and was taken into custody following phone negotiations, according to the source.

In a Monday afternoon update, Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom says the Terrell Police Department received a 911 call at approximately 10 a.m. in reference to a man beating a woman with a gun.

"The [911 caller] had heard the woman screaming and went to the apartment to check on her and, from the doorway, saw the woman on the floor and the man with the gun," stated Sansom. "The male stated to her, he would 'kill her if she called the police.'"

Sansom says the woman was released before officers arrival.

"Negotiations were established with the armed suspect," according to Sansom. "He refused to surrender and was threatening himself and expressed no desire to harm anyone else and stated he did not want be shot by the police."

"As negotiations continued, the suspect agreed to surrender peacefully and provided and estimated time to do so," stated Sansom. "This was coordinated with the negotiator and officers staged for his surrender."

"At 11:56 a.m., the suspect exited unarmed and was taken into custody safely and without incident at 11:59 a.m.," he said.

The suspect was identified as 35-year-old Danlar Andrew Johnson of Terrell, Texas, who has been charged with family violence/assault/strangulation. Sansom says additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation progresses.

"The Terrell Police SWAT Team and the DPS Special Response Team both responded to this SWAT call," Terrell Police Department Chief Jody Lay stated. "Both teams were deployed and worked together to bring this to a successful resolution."

"Additionally, Kaufman County Deputies responded to assist Terrell Police with the perimeter, traffic control and to help Terrell Police respond to patrol calls that were ongoing during the incident," stated Lay.

Police evacuated nearby residents and cordoned off an area around the town homes while the incident was ongoing.
