TERRELL, Texas — A woman was arrested overnight after Terrell Police Department officers observed a U-Haul truck stuck in the mud near a business on Apache Trail. The U-Haul, as well as a second vehicle located nearby, were reported stolen, according to police.

Police also believe, in addition to the woman who was arrested, at least one other person was involved in an attempted burglary at the Cassity Jones Lumber Yard in the 500 block of Apache Trail.

Just after midnight on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, the officers observed the U-Haul truck stuck in the mud inside the northeast corner of the lumber yard at Cassity Jones Lumber Yard, according to Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom.

A nearby gate appeared to be cut and rammed by the U-Haul which appeared to have a “punched” ignition and was still warm near the engine bay.

Additional officers, a Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, and a Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter were requested for assistance to search for any individuals inside the business. The helicopter was unable to respond due to weather concerns.

Initially, officers did not locate anyone during their search of the property but the search area was expanded when a second vehicle, a 2008 Ford F250, was discovered with a “punched” ignition at the eastbound entrance ramp to Spur 557.

The woman, identified as 30-year-old Amanda Lee of Dallas, Texas, was located hiding in the general area, according to Sansom. She was arrested and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after evidence was found in the F250 which linked her to the truck. Lee remains under investigation for the burglary at the lumber yard.

The F250 was determined to be stolen out of Tarrant County and the U-Haul, which had not yet been reported stolen, was stolen out of Balch Springs, Texas.

“It is believed there is at least one suspect is still at large,” stated Sansom. “Officers spent hours searching the area and only located Lee.”
