A Terrell police chase ended after an accident in Mesquite, Texas, on October 8, 2013. According to Captain Sansom with the Terrell Police Department, the chase began after an 11:32 a.m. call regarding a theft in progress at Walmart on West Moore Avenue in Terrell, Texas.

The theft suspect fled Walmart in a vehicle described as a white four-door Pontiac Grand Am. A Terrell police officer located the suspect's vehicle traveling westbound on US Highway 80 just west of the city limits and the officer initiated a traffic stop.

The suspect, after initially stopping for the officer, fled through Forney, Texas, on US Highway 80. Once in Mesquite, the suspect went southbound on 635 before exiting Bruton Road and heading westbound.

The suspect ran a red light at the intersection of Bruton Road and North Masters Drive and collided with a black 2008 Lexus 330. The suspect was apprehended along with a 53-year-old Longview man who was a passenger in the fleeing vehicle. No injuries were reported in the accident.

“The driver resisted lawful arrest by the officer and was finally taken into custody after the use of Oleoresin Capsicum spray [pepper spray] was deployed,” states Captain Sansom. The suspect is in the custody of Terrell Police and is being evaluated at Kaufman Presbyterian Hospital for minor injuries.

Terrell Police have yet to identify the driver of the vehicle but did say tentatively he is a 43-year-old male from McKinney, Texas. The investigation is still ongoing with the Terrell Police Department. Approximately $500 in cosmetic and healthcare products was recovered and still being inventoried in the investigation.

The unidentified male driver of the vehicle is being charged with evading in a vehicle and resisting arrest. Enhanced theft charges are also pending dependent on the value of the recovered property inventoried by investigators.

“The passenger offered no resistance, complied with the officers and the investigation, and was released after further interview. No charges are being filed on him,” according to Captain Sansom.

A Terrell Police officer received minor injuries to his hands, fingers, and wrists in the form of bruising, swelling, and abrasions.
