TERRELL, Texas — After a busy couple of days last week resulting in several arrests, Terrell Police Department Chief Jody L. Lay is commending his patrol officers and investigators.

“I’m really proud of the men and women of our organization. We continue to get the job done and serve this community with a high level of performance,” Lay stated in a release.

The Terrell Police Department cited three recent encounters which resulted in arrests.

On October 16, 2014, a Terrell Police Department patrol officer recognized a subject while on routine patrol who had outstanding warrants for burglary of a building in Terrell, Texas. After confirming the warrants, 37-year-old Brian Doherty was arrested in the 1000 block of San Jacinto and was also found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

Doherty is being held in the Kaufman County Jail on two counts of burglary of a building, possession of a controlled substance from penalty group one greater than or equal to one gram and less than four grams, prohibited substance or item in a correctional facility, and a parole violation warrant out of the Austin State Parole Board. Doherty’s bonds total $250,000 with no bond on the parole violation.

Also on October 16, 2014, two Combine, Texas, residents were arrested for theft at WalMart in Terrell. Officers were responding to the theft call and located the suspects attempting to flee the scene. Arrested were 50-year-old Ronald Flowers and 47-year-old Rite Flowers. Officers recovered stolen alcohol, clothing, automotive parts, and household goods valued at just under $750. Police have reason to believe other items were stolen from other Walmarts the same day.

Ronald Flowers, being held at the Kaufman County Jail on bonds totaling $58,500, was charged with theft of property less than $1,500 with two prior convictions and has holds in Dallas County, Ellis County, and Rockwall County.

Rita Flowers, being held in the Kaufman County Jail on bonds totaling $13,000, was charged with theft of property between $500 and $1,500 and four holds in Dallas County.

A third individual, 39-year-old Connie Chambers, of Dallas, Texas, was also arrested on outstanding traffic warrants.

On October 17, 2014, just after midnight, two male subjects forcibly entered an apartment on North Frances Street and assaulted the occupants of the residence, causing visible injuries. The Terrell Police Department located and arrested 21-year-old Juan Contreas and 20-year-old Jose Contreas, both of Terrell, Texas, after they fled the scene.

Both Contreas suspects are being held in the Kaufman County Jail for with a charge for burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit another felony on $100,000 bonds. Juan Contreas also has prior charges for failure to appear, no drivers license, and a revoked bond.

“We are frequently pleased with our staff in carrying out their daily activities,” stated Lay. “They routinely engage in proactive patrol tactics, seeking out offenders and clearing crimes. Things happen here on daily basis that are great examples of the quality of work my staff produces. Many times the general public has no idea how busy we are or big things that frequently occur but to us have become routine.”

Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom added, “The members of this agency encounter these types of incidents every day and handle them with professionalism and diligence. We get the job done! Few really understand the nature of the field, let alone the activity generated in this city. It is regular, constant and steady.”
