TERRELL, Texas — The Terrell Police Department’s chief of police’s stolen pickup truck was recovered last week in Irving, Texas — approximately two weeks and 50 miles from where it was stolen in Terrell, Texas.
According to Captain A.D. Sansom with the Terrell Police Department, Terrell Police Department Chief Jody L. Lay’s white, 1999 Ford F-250 pickup truck was stolen from in front of his house in the 500 block of Kings Creek in Terrell, Texas.
The theft allegedly occurred in the early morning hours on Sunday, November 2, 2014. Surveillance footage captured at least two individuals in a white car with dark tinted windows at the time of the theft.
The truck was recovered at an apartment complex in Irving, Texas, on Friday, November 14, 2014. The locks of the truck had reportedly been “punched” and allowed the thieves to enter the vehicle who then “peeled” the steering column and used a screwdriver, or similar tool, to start the truck’s engine.
Information on the truck was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Irving Police Department recovered the vehicle which was later impounded. No suspects were arrested in connection with the theft.
Lay has yet to obtain possession of this vehicle and its condition, whether it was stripped of any parts or equipment, is still unknown.
