Terrell Police Department Chief McKeown retires, Sansom names interim chief

TERRELL, Texas — As part of a long-planned transition, Chief Ken McKeown retired from his position at the Terrell Police Department, and Deputy Arley Samson was named Interim Police Chief.

TERRELL, Texas — As part of a long-planned transition, Chief Ken McKeown retired from his position at the Terrell Police Department, and Deputy Arley Samson was named Interim Police Chief.

Chief McKeown states, "First, I would like to thank the citizens of Terrell, Mayor Rick Carmona, the City Council, and City Manager Mike Sims for their consistent support throughout my career. I would also like to thank the officers and staff for their friendship and professionalism -- I have been truly blessed to have such a fantastic team by my side. Lastly, I want to thank my wife, Kathy, for being my strongest advocate and sounding board. It has been an honor to serve Terrell, and I feel accomplished in knowing I contributed to the safety and growth of the community."

In 1993, Officer McKeown began his tenure with the Terrell Police Department and prided himself on helping civilians and strengthening the community. By upholding values like professionalism and integrity, Officer McKeown attained multiple positions, including Liaison, Patrol Captain, and Captain of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team.

In 2017, McKeown was appointed Chief of Police, overseeing the Operations Division, Criminal Investigations Division, and Administrative Division. In our rapidly growing community, Chief McKeown defined his legacy through mentorship, building relationships, and bringing a passion for professionalism within policing services. He also worked towards constructing the new state-of-the-art police department equipped to accommodate current and future law enforcement.

City Manager Mike Sims stated, "Chief McKeown's leadership style and heart for people made a difference to many in our community. I have a great deal of respect and admiration for him and the police department he leaves behind."
