TERRELL, Texas — The Terrell Police Department is calling on its citizens to help bring an end to a recent increase in residential burglaries.
Between January 1, 2015, and January 22, 2015, the Terrell Police Department received 10 reports of burglary of a habitation — a spike in the overall daytime residential burglaries, according to Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom.
Of the 10 residential burglary reports, six were reported in District 12 which encompasses an area between West Moore Avenue, 9th Street, Farm-to-Market (FM) 986, North Virginia Avenue, and North Frances Street.
“The burglaries are being committed during the daytime while no one is at home and the perpetrators are entering by either kicking or breaking the back door to the home,” stated Sansom. “Once inside, the suspect(s) are taking flat screen television sets and laptop computers.”
Police believe the suspect(s) live somewhere in the immediate area and are approaching and leaving the residence from the rear on foot.
“The offenses are occurring on Mondays and Thursdays, predominantly,” Sansom stated. “The offenses are clustered in a fairly close area in the 100-300 blocks of the east-west streets and the 700-800 blocks of the north-south streets.”
Police are urging citizens to be “very vigilant” in reporting suspicious persons, vehicles, or circumstances by calling 911. “Nothing suspicious should be considered insignificant,” stated Sansom.
In the meantime, the Terrell Police Department has increased patrols in the target area.
“Please be a nosy neighbor and remember, it takes a ‘community to police a community,’” Sansom stated.
