TERRELL, Texas — A Terrell Police Department pursuit early Saturday morning ended in one arrest in Dallas.

At approximately 1:20 a.m., a Terrell Police Department officer began pursuing a vehicle after it failed to stop for a traffic violation. The suspect was observed driving erratically and cut off an 18-wheeler near Interstate 20 and Spur 557 in Terrell, according to Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom.

The pursuit went westbound on Spur 557 and U.S. Highway 80 at speeds averaging 80 miles per hour through Forney where pursuing officers were joined by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and a helicopter.

Several Dallas County Sheriff’s Office deputies were able to successfully deploy spike strips along U.S. Highway 80 as the pursuit passed through Sunnyvale and Mesquite.

The pursuit slowed to speeds of approximately 50 miles per hour as the suspect vehicle exited the highway and began traveling southbound on Buckner Boulevard in Dallas when the driver bailed on foot, fled into an apartment complex off of Chariot Drive, and was quickly apprehended by officers near Skyline High School without further incident.

"Two Terrell police vehicles received damage as one inadvertently backed into the other just as foot pursuit was beginning," stated Sansom. "One was towed from the location."

The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Christopher Wigfall of Dallas, Texas. Wigfall was charged with felony evading.

"Wigfall was aware he had an active probation warrant for his arrest for a previous offense of evading in a vehicle and admitted to Officers it was a motivating factor in his flight," stated Sansom.
