TERRELL, Texas — The Terrell Police Department released a warning on Tuesday morning about an increase in counterfeit bills surfacing at local retailers and restaurants.
“Since January 1, 2015, we have had an increase in counterfeit bills surfacing in our city,” stated Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom. “Counterfeit twenty and one-hundred dollar denominations have been the most common.”
Crime analyst review and research conducted by the Terrell Police Department “indicates Friday to be the most frequent day the bills have been passed.” Sonic and Brookshire’s have been the most affected by the counterfeit bills with two instances of counterfeit bills being passed at Brookshire’s and three instances of the bills being passed at two different Sonic locations.
“Business operators and individuals should pay special attention to bills before accepting them and always call the police if they appear suspicious,” stated Sansom.
