Terrell police pursuit yields arrest, marijuana seizure

TERRELL, Texas — A brief police pursuit in Terrell overnight yielded an arrest and a seizure of several baggies of marijuana, according to police.

Just before midnight, a Terrell Police Department officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and turn sharply onto East Grove Street. The vehicle was also not bearing a front license plate, as required by law.

The officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, described as a Saturn Ion, in the 600 block of West Grove Street for traffic violations. The driver, identified by police as 19-year-old Corneilius Bell of Terrell, Texas, initially stopped for the officer who requested an additional unit because of Bell’s behavior — described as “acting and appearing very nervous.”

A check also revealed Bell was wanted out of Terrell on a midsummer warrant for failure to maintain financial responsibility.

“Bell was asked if there were any drugs or weapons in the vehicle and he denied,” Captain A.D. Sansom said Thursday morning in response to an inForney.com inquiry. “He refused to give consent for a search.”

Sansom says while the officer was running a check on Bell, he fled in the vehicle. During the brief pursuit, which ended on West Grove Street near South Ann Street, Bell was observed throwing several items out the window.

Bell was arrested without further incident and charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, delivery of marijuana greater than 1/4 ounce and less than 5 pounds, and issued an in-custody citation for no valid driver’s license.

In total, police recovered 13 pre-wrapped baggies, “individually wrapped for sale,” containing suspected marijuana with a total gross weight of 13.3 grams.

"No drugs were located in the vehicle as it seems Bell had thrown it all out falsely believing he would not be charged with the drugs," stated Sansom.
