FORNEY, Texas — Two people were indicted by a Kaufman County Grand Jury in connection with the armed robbery of a woman attempting to sell a cell phone through a buy/sell app in Forney.
On Wednesday, January 25, 2017, 19-year-old Steven Warren Daniels Jr. and 18-year-old Lashell Laquan Beavers met a woman in the 600 block of Tumbleweed Drive after arranging to purchase a cell phone from a woman through the buy/sell app “Let Go.”
Daniels allegedly displayed a handgun and stole the phone from the woman before fleeing in a vehicle with Beavers.
The following day, Daniels was arrested by the Dallas Police Department for a separate aggravated robbery which reportedly occurred in Mesquite. Beavers was arrested nearly a month later by the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office.
The Kaufman County Grand Jury returned aggravated robbery indictments for both Daniels and Beavers yesterday, March 8, 2017.
Daniels remains jailed at the Dallas County Jail with a $150,000 bond on the Forney Police Department aggravated robbery charge and a $25,000 bond on the other aggravated robbery charge. Beavers remains jailed in the Kaufman County Jail on a $100,000 bond for aggravated robbery and $5,000 bonds for possession of a controlled substance PG 3 greater than three grams and less than 28 grams and possession of marijuana less than two ounces.
“As a reminder, if citizens are using selling apps that require the seller and buyer to meet, we encourage these transactions to be made in a public place,” the Forney Police Department stated at the time of the incident.
During a city council meeting earlier this week, city officials say they are working on developing a “safe zone” for internet transactions and child custody exchanges.
