KAUFMAN , Texas — Two Kaufman High School students have been arrested in connection with threats of a school shooting, according to the Kaufman ISD Police Department.
One male student was arrested for terroristic threat, a third-degree felony, and another juvenile student was arrested and charged with false alarm or report involving a public school, a state-jail felony.
"With the second arrest, both the student that made the original comments regarding the acts of violence and the student that perpetuated the allegations via social media are both in custody and will not be on campus Monday," stated Kaufman ISD Police Department Chief of Police Pete Ferrara in a press release Sunday night.
Comments on social media allege the male student used a gun simulation app on his phone during class while making threats to kill students, specifically on Monday.
Charges for the juvenile reportedly stem from a comment on Snapchat which read, "Sorry for the school shooting that's possibly happening tomorrow...:)"
Neither the male student or the juvenile student were identified.
“The juvenile is being referred to the Kaufman County Juvenile Probation Department for prosecution,” he said.
Police are continuing to investigate the threats to determine if any other students contributed to the situation and, if so, will refer additional charges for prosecution.
“Kaufman ISD is committed to maintaining a safe and secure school environment, and will have additional KISD officers on duty Monday morning at [Kaufman High School],” stated Ferrara.
Police are asking any students or parents who may have information regarding this incident, or concerns, to contact the Kaufman ISD administration or Kaufman ISD police at Kaufman High School at (972) 932-2811.
