KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — Two Kaufman County men, in separate cases, were found guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14 and were given lengthy prison sentences.
On Tuesday, Kaufman County 86th District Court Judge Casey Blair sentenced 47-year-old Raul Castanon Salazu to 65 years in prison after a jury convicted Salazu of continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14 following a two-day trial in November. Yesterday, Salazu filed a motion for a new trial and a notice of appeal.
Salazu was arrested by the Terrell Police Department on August 7, 2014, was charged, and later indicted in November 2014. The indictment alleges the abuse occurred in 2008. Salazu is also being held on a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold at the Kaufman County jail until his transfer to prison.
34-year-old Robert Roderich Stubblefield, in a separate case, was also found guilty of continuous sexual assault of a child under the age of 14 in September and was sentenced by that jury to 80 years in prison.
Stubblefield filed an appeal in September and a motion for a new trial in October. On November 30, 2015, Blair denied Stubblefield’s motion for a new trial. Stubblefield now awaits a ruling from the Court of Appeals for the Fifth District of Texas.
Blairs says because both men were found to be guilty of continuous abuse, the sentences will be served day-for-day and they will not be eligible for parole.
