TERRELL, Texas — A fugitive wanted out of Kaufman County was arrested following a brief police pursuit, wreck, and foot chase in Terrell early Saturday morning.
The pursuit began at approximately 12:51 a.m., according to police who say they received a 911 call about a possible fugitive parked outside a residence in the 500 block of Bethlehem Street.
Upon arrival, police observed a car parked outside the residence with its dome light on. “As the officer approached the vehicle, it took off at a high rate of speed,” stated Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom. “He was ordered to stop and refused.”
Sansom says the man, identified as 21-year-old Landrick Wilson of Terrell, Texas, fled through a nearby field in the vehicle, jumped a ditch, and continued fleeing south on New Hope Street. Sansom said the officer was forced to exit the path of the vehicle as it fled at a high rate of speed.
Sansom further stated Wilson failed to yield and committed multiple traffic violations before losing control of the vehicle and crashed through a ditch and into a tree on the east side of the 200 block of South Park Street.
Wilson then fled on foot north on South Park Street with officers in foot chase. Sansom says Wilson fell and was taken into custody as he attempted to get back up.
While officers were checking on a female passenger of the vehicle, officers observed a small plastic bag and a cigarillo containing suspected marijuana in the driver side door storage compartment. Several dollars were also observed on the floorboard, according to Sansom.
Sansom says the female passenger complained of severe pain throughout her body and was treated by EMS on scene until she refused medical transport. The female was later taken by a family member to a nearby hospital.
While Wilson was being transported to the Terrell Municipal Jail, Sansom says the transporting officer reported Wilson became unresponsive. After EMS was dispatched, Wilson became alert and claimed to be “sleeping.”
Upon arrival at the jail, Wilson received medical attention and was later transported, under police escort, by CareFlite EMS to Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman, Texas, for further evaluation. As of Saturday morning, Wilson was reportedly in stable condition.
Wilson had a warrant out of Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office for a probation violation and was charged by the Terrell Police Department with evading arrest or detention in a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana greater than or equal to 2 ounces. Court records indicate Wilson was wanted for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
