KEMP, Texas — A woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a police chase and crash in Kemp.
At approximately 2:54 p.m., a Kemp Police Department officer responded to the Kemp Car Wash on State Highway (SH) 274 in reference to suspicious activity, Kemp Police Department Chief Bradley DeLaughter told inForney.com.
The officer attempted to make contact with a Ford Mustang in the parking lot by initiating a traffic stop. The Mustang, occupied by two females, fled the scene, onto SH 274, and eastbound on the U.S. Highway 175 service road. Speeds were reported in excess of 70 miles per hour.
The driver failed to navigate a turn at County Road 4024 and crashed through a fence and into a pasture. The driver fled on foot and the passenger was detained.
"The driver was located a short while later hiding under a building at the Beacon Hill Subdivsion Maintenance Area," stated DeLaughter. "That female was taken into custody."
The driver was later identified as 32-year-old Brandy Stanhouse who has been charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and reckless driving, according to jail records. Bonds have been set at $15,000 and $3,500, respectively.
Its unknown at this time if the passenger faces any charges.
