FORNEY, Texas — UPDATE [Mar. 6] — A woman was sentenced to 16 years in prison earlier today following her guilty plea last week to attempted murder stemming from a failed murder plot in Forney.

Nubia Sanchez pled guilty last week to attempted murder in a plea agreement with the state and faced two to 20 years in prison. Earlier today, 86th District Court Judge Casey Blair found her guilty of attempted murder and sentenced her to 16 years in prison.

Blair also determined a deadly weapon was used during the offense which requires at least half of Nubia's 16-year sentence be served before she is eligible for parole.

ORIGINAL [Feb. 28] — Yesterday, a 38-year-old Forney woman entered a guilty plea before 86th District Court Judge Casey Blair — a week before she was set to stand trial for conspiracy to commit capital murder.

Nubia Sanchez pled guilty to a lesser charge, in an agreement with the Kaufman County District Attorney's Office, of attempted murder.

Next Tuesday, Sanchez is scheduled to appear for sentencing in the 86th District Court to determine her finding of guilt and punishment.

During sentencing, prosecutors are expected to outline the events which led to Sanchez and her alleged co-conspirator, 58-year-old David Gillette, to conspire to murder another man on the night of June 21, 2017.

Police responded to a residence in the 15000 block of Valley View, just north of Forney, on a report of trespassers on private property, Kaufman County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jolie Stewart told inForney.com at the time. They found the victim holding Gillette at gunpoint.

The victim told police Gillette had fired a gun at him before he returned fire. The victim was uninjured and Gillette was initially taken into custody on a charge for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Upon further investigation, detectives learned Gillette had allegedly conspired with Sanchez to murder the victim. The aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge was dropped and Gillette was charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

On June 28, Sanchez was arrested on a similar charge.

After Sanchez entered her plea, she was remanded back into the custody of the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office and held on her original $500,000 bond at the Kaufman County Jail.

Gillette also remains jailed at the Kaufman County Jail on a $500,000 bond. A trial date has not yet been scheduled in his case.
